I am authoring Early New Mexico Basketball as a tribute to my late son, Stephen Nathaniel Flores, who passed away on July 28, 2022, after a three-month illness. My son Steve leaves as his legacy his wife, Kristina (Tina to him), his son Marcus and his daughter Hannah. In 2006 Steve published his special project under the title of Ghost Town Basketball. It was subtitled Former Basketball Teams of New Mexico. His book proved to be very popular and soon was sold out. It is now widely sought but is out of print. I am continuing my son’s love for basketball with Early New Mexico Basketball. I have also subtitled it A Tribute to Steve Flores. I am including past picture of basketball teams from throughout New Mexico, that includes both boys’ teams and girls’ teams. I have also included several newspaper articles about some of those teams. Included in my book is the program from the 3rd North-South basketball All Star game which was held in 1949. Read more
